What is it that makes a restaurant truly family-friendly? Is it a diverse kids’ menu with a mix of kid faves and healthy options, a patient staff who at least act like they like kids, or a generous wine and beer list with options galore to soothe your frazzled nerves when the fries start flying? We’ve found it’s all of those (with heavy emphasis on the wine list) and a plethora of other well-thought-out details. When you can see that the management considered the needs of parents and kids of all ages, from the greeting to the check, you know families are welcome.

The metro-area joints we’ve collected for this month’s Where to Eat With Kids in Denver list have elevated their family offerings and embraced smart touches that make kids and their parents feel at home—patio games and activities, online reservation systems, build-your-own pizza, and more. No national chains on this list—you’ll only find local spots that offer order-at-the-table service. Alongside their delicious food, these restaurants all offer families a relaxed atmosphere for a sit down meal together. Take a look and let us know what you think. We’d love to hear about your family’s favorite eateries.

Speaking of lists, this issue also includes the annual list of Top Doctors for Families compiled by our sister publication, 5280 magazine, a list of great reads for Grandparents Day, four scenic fall walks, and 209 ideas for fun family outings this month. So, whether you’re grabbing a table for a family meal or looking for ways to spend a fall day in Colorado, this issue serves up a generous helping of ideas.

Enjoy!
