What is the name of the school where you work?
GOMEZ: Eagleton Elementary
What was your favorite subject growing up?
GOMEZ: Math
What clubs and extracurricular activities did you participate in as a student?
GOMEZ: Math Club
What influenced you to go into teaching?
GOMEZ: I was drawn to the school environment because I wanted to be a support system for families. I love being the welcoming face that guides parents through the enrollment process and providing a safe, caring space for students when they aren’t feeling their best.
What is your favorite part of your daily teaching life?
GOMEZ: My favorite part of the day is definitely lunch and recess duty. It’s the time when I get to see the children’s true personalities shine outside of the classroom, and I love being there to encourage their play and social growth.
How many years have you been teaching?
GOMEZ: I have been working in the education field for 5 years.
In what ways are you active in your school’s community (coaching/clubs/volunteer/work)?
GOMEZ: I am very involved in school communications and family engagement.
What is something interesting about you that your students would be surprised to learn?
GOMEZ: While they see me at recess or in the office, I’m also behind the scenes tracking attendance and making sure everyone is accounted for. But the real surprise? I used to be just as energetic and talkative as they are when I was in elementary school.
If you could pass along one piece of advice to your students, what would it be?
GOMEZ: Always be kind and patient. A little bit of empathy goes a long way in making our school a better place for everyone.
