Apples and autumn go hand in hand. From apple picking to sipping hot apple cider and noshing on fresh apple pie, there’s no denying that apple is the taste of fall. On chilly Colorado mornings, savor the flavor of the season and treat your family to a batch of these freshly baked apple doughnuts.
Wacky Apple Baked Doughnuts

Dry Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
Wet Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons applesauce (Golden or Cinnamon Wacky Apple applesauce)
- 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup apple juice (Wacky Apple apple juice)
- 1 small fresh apple, peeled and diced
- Cinnamon Sugar Coating (optional)
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Combine all the wet ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until just incorporated.
- Spray doughnut pan with coconut oil spray.
- Pour batter into a large zipper storage bag. Cut off corner of the bag to use as a piping bag. Pipe batter into the doughnut pan.
- Bake doughnuts for 13 to 17 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out dry.
- Wait 3 to 5 minutes before taking the doughnuts out of the pan.
- If using cinnamon-sugar coating, combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Lightly spray the tops of the doughnuts with coconut oil spray. While hot, toss doughnuts in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
