If you’ve never been to a dirt bike championship, you’re in for a thrilling experience. The Monster Energy Supercross Championship will be at the Empower Field at Mile High on May 3 for an exciting day of jam-packed action. Not only can you watch the competition, you can also get a full behind-the-scenes look at the sport.
“Fans basically have the closest interaction with riders and athletes, more than any other sport on the planet, in my opinion,” says Cade Clason, a pro rider for Supercross. “They [the fans] can come get autographs… watch the mechanics work on the bikes.”
It’s not just about watching from the stands. From BMX stunt shows to freestyle motocross demos happening throughout the day, the entire pit area becomes a festival of speed, style, and two-wheeled talent.
Supercross is for all ages, says Clason. For kids, it’s about the excitement of watching riders fly through the air, but for adults, Clason says, “You can appreciate the intensity of what’s actually going on. There will be 22 guys on the track at a time, and we’re within inches of each other for the majority of the race. It gets pretty wild.”
Each city brings a brand-new track—literally. For each destination, a new course is designed. The riders get two 10-minute sessions to learn the new course before a competition. This ensures an exciting and fresh competition at every event.
Clason has been racing since he was seven years old and turned pro in 2013. When he’s not traveling with Supercross, Clason finds peace in the outdoors. He loves to mountain bike and hunt, particularly in Colorado. “It’s one of my favorite places…just to come and explore and be around the wildlife,” says Clason.
For fans dreaming of one day being on the starting gate, Clason’s advice is simple: start young, ride smart, and get good coaching:
“I coach a lot through a company called the Moto Academy, where basically we train all skill levels of riders to just be more technical in a motorcycle and be just the best version of themselves… We can’t all be champions and compete at the highest level, but competing safely is a big thing that we work on, and you can just enjoy riding a dirt bike at any level.”
If you’re looking for a fun, fast-paced day out for the whole family, Supercross delivers. With bikes soaring through the air, pit access, and non-stop entertainment, it’s a unique way to spend a Saturday. Bring the kids, bring your enthusiasm, and get ready to see the sport up close.
