It’s truly magical when television characters come to life. Favorite characters from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood—the popular American-Canadian animated TV series produced by The Fred Rogers Company—are coming to the Bellco Theatre on March 10.

In Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live: King for a Day, many of the characters that families know and love will be on stage: Daniel, mom and dad Tiger, and all of Daniel’s friends. This live show will also have a surprise guest character, Prince Wednesday’s cousin, Chrissie who uses crutches and braces on her legs to walk.

“We thought it was very important to include a character that has her own special set of circumstances,” says Simone Gianfrancesco, executive producer of the touring show. “We worked with the Children’s National Hospital in DC to make sure that we were accurately portraying that character and her experiences,” says Gianfrancesco, adding that they even cast an actress in the role who had a similar experience growing up, to maintain the authenticity to the show.

Working with The Fred Rogers Company, Gianfrancesco and her team developed a traveling show full of intimate and accessible messages for kids, told by characters that parents and kids have grown up with. King for a Day, focuses on what it means to be a great leader, being kind, and listening to others. Gianfrancesco says the show has a lot of music, most of which comes directly from the TV series to create a seamless connection between the TV show and live production.
