Q: Why did you launch HighSchoolBabySitters.com?
Aspen: I launched HighSchoolBabySitters.com so that high schoolers would have the opportunity to connect with parents in their communities. One summer, some friends and I had a big group chat that we were sending babysitting jobs in, and when we looked into it, we realized there was no other way for parents to get in contact with other high school-aged babysitters if needed. Prior to HighSchoolBabySitters.com, there was no other online platform for parents to connect with teen babysitters in their communities.
Q: What are the benefits of having a high schooler babysit?
Aspen: There are so many amazing benefits to having a high schooler babysit! For starters, because we are younger, we can connect better with the kids while also making sure that they are safe and being cared for. Aside from that aspect, high schoolers are typically a lot cheaper than a nanny or someone older, which could be beneficial to many families.
Q: What safety measures are in place?
Aspen: This is a super common question I get! Because the babysitters are under the age of 18, we cannot legally run background checks on them; however, when a babysitter registers on our site, they input where they attend school, their grade point average (GPA), if they have first aid training, and tons of other information. When parents go to choose a babysitter, they can see most of this information and begin a conversation through a chat on our site and then parents can make a judgment as to which babysitter they would like to choose.
As far as safety for the babysitters, every babysitter must put in a parent or guardian’s information when they register, and that guardian must verify their child’s account. The babysitter’s parent or guardian can then see everything that their child does on our website, including any conversations that their child is having with a prospective family to babysit for.
Q: Why should parents choose HighSchoolBabySitters.com over another site?
Aspen: High schoolers are such a large part of the babysitting industry and HighSchoolBabySitters.com is now the easiest way to connect with those babysitters. HighSchoolBabySitters.com is also significantly cheaper to use than so many other sites in the babysitting industry, which in the end, can save parents quite a bit of money. It is also a great way to easily connect with your community by finding a local high schooler to babysit for your kids who is experienced and reliable for a much cheaper price.
Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Aspen: Right now, I am a Senior at Evergreen High School in Colorado. I have played volleyball for quite a long time, both on club and school teams. I am super involved in my school: I am an officer for our chapter of the National Honor Society, and I also participate in DECA, where I was able to win internationals this past year with a growth plan I made for HighSchoolBabysitters.com! Outside of school, I love to get involved in my community whether it be through volunteering or by working with organizations such as the Young Americans Center for Financial Education. I also love to hang out with my friends, read, and listen to music! I am starting the process of applying to colleges right now, and I am super excited to see where that will take me next!
