Disney On Ice presents “Let’s Dance!” has come to Denver! With performances all weekend long, we got the inside scoop from one of the performers enjoying the magic of performing.
“I get to be a part of the magic that makes many different stories from the show come alive,” says Josh Kohlmeiere.
Josh grew up in Littleton, Colorado, learning to skate at 5 years old at the local ice rink. He fell in love with skating, and when his parents took him to Disney On Ice, he started dreaming of being a Disney On Ice performer. In 2021, he sent an audition reel and joined Feld Entertainment to work with Disney On Ice.
“My favorite part of being involved with Disney On Ice is seeing the impact that the Disney magic, iconic stories and beloved characters bring to audiences of all ages around the world. It is truly special to bring such an experience to people through the love for Disney and sharing our love for skating,” Josh says.
He adds his favorite part of the show is when he gets to be a part of “Wish” as a townsperson of the city of Rosas, helping Asha and the other townspeople fight to ensure everyone’s dream can come true.
Despite some challenges, like learning new tricks and show elements while touring and becoming adaptable to performing on a new ice surface each week, Josh says they work hard as a unit to come together and make the challenges less difficult.
“It is super special to be back in Colorado to perform,” he says. “I grew up watching Disney On Ice at Ball Arena (Pepsi Center at the time), so it’s such a full circle moment to get to be performing on the same home ice for families and friends!”
About the Show
Josh says families should be prepared for an action-packed experience filled with something for everyone – both kids and adults alike! He says there is so much interaction before and during the show (like the Holiday Sing Along with Donald and Goofy before the show and a Dance Party with Timon and Pumbaa during Hakuna Matata) that the mix with extreme skaters and impressive aerial acts makes for an exciting performance.
He adds that kids love singing along to their favorite songs during the show, like Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go.” And of course, Josh says the kids love seeing their favorite Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie mouse right in front of them.
“A super fun thing about this show being in Colorado specifically is that a few of the skaters represent Colorado between being Colorado natives or athletes who have trained in Colorado during their competitive career,” Josh explains. “There’s such a large skating community in Colorado, and it’s always a special stop for Disney On Ice.”
