Colorado Parent and Gaylord Rockies Resort are excited to announce the winner of the Cirque Dreams Holidaze Costume Contest, nine-year-old Layla Stark of Broomfield. Stark’s winning design, titled Gingerbread Woman, features colorful swirls and dots reminiscent of the decorations on festive holiday cookies.

“I was thinking of things related to Christmas and I thought of gingerbread cookies,” Stark says of her inspiration for her design. “When I think of them, I picture bright colors and candies.”

The Cirque Dreams team reviewed dozens of entries from young designers ages 5-12 for the contest. Stark’s design stood out and will come to life through the talents of the Cirque Dreams costume design team.

The winning entry for the 2019 Cirque Dreams Holidaze costume contest came from nine-year-old Layla Stark.

“Layla’s use of color, perspective, and design placement fits in perfectly with the storytelling inspiration behind every Cirque Dreams costume,” says Neil Goldberg, Cirque Dreams Founder and Broadway Director. “We are excited to premiere both Layla and her design on stage as part of Cirque Dreams Holidaze.”

Stark’s Gingerbread Woman costume will be featured among hundreds of amazing costumes in the Cirque Dreams Holidaze performance on December 3, 2019 at the Bubly theatre. The 75-minute show celebrates Christmas and all the seasonal holidays through a collection of inventive and spectacular performances. In addition to having her design re-created for the show, Stark won tickets for the December 3 performance, which she plans to attend with her parents and best friend Kayleb.

“I never imagined that I would win out of everyone competing in the state,” she says. “it feels like a big accomplishment!”
