Each summer, Anythink Libraries transforms the idea of a traditional reading program into something bigger, bolder, and more inclusive, inviting the entire community to participate in a season of creativity, exploration, and meaningful connection through its mySummer program.

Reimagining Summer Reading Programs

mySummer isn’t your typical read-and-track library initiative. When Anythink Libraries transitioned from Adams County Public Libraries to the Rangeview Library District about 15 years ago, the staff sought to rethink and revitalize how they approached summer programming. That effort led to the creation of mySummer: A program rooted in accessibility, creativity, and the belief that learning should be joyful.

“The goal of mySummer is to create a library program that makes space for meaningful interactions, and provides access to both reading and learning, but also is really empowering for our children and teens,” explains Anythink’s Director of Customer Experience, Suzanne McGowan. “This way, they get to create their own summer.”

All Ages, All Together

Unlike many programs that divide participants by age, MySummer is intentionally intergenerational. Whether you’re a toddler, a teen, or a retiree, you’re invited to engage with the program on your own terms.

That includes Mini Thinkers (ages 0–5), who get special programming geared toward early childhood development, as well as teens and adults who can dive into hands-on events and artistic exploration. This shared experience encourages families to set goals together, model reading behaviors, and combat summer learning loss, especially for children affected by opportunity gaps during the summer break.

Creative Kits and Hands-On Fun

When participants sign up, they receive a customizable canvas messenger bag—a highlight of the program this year. The bag is just the beginning. Each branch hosts its own lineup of engaging events in addition to district-wide programs. Participants might explore art, storytelling, science, or outdoor fun—anything that fits within the “Create” theme.

Open to Everyone

No library card? No problem. MySummer is open to all. Interested participants can register online at anythinklibraries.org or sign up in person at any Anythink branch. Families can register together, and there’s no cost to join.

Participants who sign up in person or online will receive a kickoff kit with bookmarks, flyers, and—of course—the coveted canvas bag.
