This May, the critically acclaimed A Taste of Ireland comes to Colorado, bringing Celtic stories to life through dance. The production is a blend of traditional Irish dance, live music, folktales, history, and charming settings.

We got the chance to talk with one of the lead performers, Julia O’Rourke, ahead of the show’s opening night in Colorado.

O’Rourke was introduced to dancing at just five years old, when one of her kindergarten friends performed an Irish dance during their class’s show and tell time.

“I just thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen, so I asked my parents to sign me up the next day, and the rest is history. I never stopped,” says O’Rourke.

After competing for 18 years, O’Rourke began her professional dance career in 2023. She joined A Taste of Ireland in 2023 for their Christmas tour and has since been on four tours. She was drawn to the close-knit nature of the cast.

“Everyone seemed like they were having just the best of the best of times. And since I’ve gotten here, I can see why. You’re extremely close to all your cast members, and you have such a good time traveling with them,” notes O’Rourke.

With a small cast of about 20, the production feels more like a home than a workplace, and according to O’Rourke, that feeling shines through in each performance.

“Every time we go on stage it’s just pure, pure fun,” says O’Rourke. “All of our smiles are real. There’s nothing fake about it.”
