The tallest dune towers 750 feet high at an elevation of 8,700 feet above sea level. The entire dune field, located near the town of Alamosa, allows for surfing the sands, hiking the surrounding trails, or spending the night stargazing.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park features sheer black walls that plummet up to 2,700 feet on this 53-mile stretch of narrow gorge near Montrose, which reveals millions of years of natural history. The gorge has been rnowned for its dramatic scenery and recreational opportunities – hike or drive along the outer rim, explore the inner canyon, rock climb, or kayak.
State Parks
The natural beauty of Colorado is on full display at the numerous Colorado State Parks, from breathtaking scenery to wildlife habitats.
