The big NFL playoff game is almost here. I’m sure you already have your plans to either attend or watch Sunday’s NFL playoff game or (try) to sit comfortably at home watching the game on your big screen.

Football game days can be known as a “grownup” party. There’s probably drinking, eating unhealthy snacks, and maybe screaming some superlatives. But this doesn’t mean the kids have to be left out. Here are some activities that can let the kids be as involved watching the their favorite NFL team play.

Team Spirit

Encourage kids to wear their favorite team’s jerseys or colors. You can even use highlights and teach basic rules, or involve them in simple fantasy football. Have them design their own team chants or mascots.

DIY Crafts

Try football bingo cards to get them engaged during the game, design your own football team logo and team colors, or make paper footballs or goalposts. The ideas are endless.

Football-Themed Games

Play games that are football-related and get them into the spirit. Try touch football, “Pin the Football on the Goalpost,” or set up a quarterback toss.

Half-Time Fun

Half-time is the perfect way to get some energy out before hunkering down for the second half. Go outside for a quick game, or have them perform their own “halftime show.” Props to those with the best singing voice.

Snacks

Let’s be real – we know it’s all about the snacks. Consider putting together finger foods that they can munch on all during the game. You can start out with things like chicken nuggets, maybe a charcuterie board of veggies, cheese, crackers, and fruits in the shape of a football, and appetizers. Then move to some munchies like goldfish, pretzels and chips. And finish it out with some fun desserts or special treats. Or let kids decorate cookies or cupcakes with team colors and football designs.

Some prep and a little planning ahead will hopefully allow you to get a little more time to watch the game.
