It’s time to bring the holiday season to life! These DIY holiday crafts are fun, festive, and perfect for kids and adults to make together – whether it’s homemade holiday wreaths, fake snow, or snowflake window clings that shine in the sun. Whether you choose to decorate your home, gift these to friends, or just enjoy some hands-on holiday fun, these projects are sure to make spirits shine.

Holiday Wreath

This simple and adorable craft features what you want on a wreath. Kids will love making their wreaths while working on fine motor skills.

SUPPLIES:

  • Cardboard
  • 2 bowls of different sizes
  • Rubber bands
  • Scissors
  • Pine tree branches or any other piece of nature you want to incorporate
  • some sort of non-poisonous berry (optional)

STEPS:

  1. Make a cardboard wreath loop. Take the larger bowl first and outline it.
  2. Outline the smaller bowl in the middle of the larger outline. It doesn’t need to be perfect! We all love a good eyeballing. The pine branches will mask any minor imperfections.
  3. Cut out the cardboard loop. Cut on the outside line first then cut a line through the loop to get to the inside. This cut will also help put the rubber bands on the loop. Don’t worry, the cut mark will be taped together and covered up with pine branches.
  4. Put rubber bands on the loop and tape it up!
  5. Weave the pine ranches through the rubber bands. It may feel more like shoving the pine branches through the rubber bands, but it gets the job done and keeps them in place. Make sure to weave a pine branch over the tape to cover it up.
  6. Add any other pieces of nature that you might have. These wreaths would also look beautiful with leaves.

Fake Snow

This sensory experience is nice for when you don’t want to go out in the cold but still want to play in the snow. This DIY fake snow feels like the real thing and is incredibly easy to make with just two ingredients.

SUPPLIES:

  • Baking soda
  • Shaving cream
  • Dish or container to mix it all up in

STEPS:

  1. Pour the baking soda into a plastic container with a lid.
  2. Add some shaving cream, and knead it into the baking soda.
  3. Add more shaving cream, mix, and repeat until the mixture is the consistency of snow. The fake snow will become light and powdery, and will leave very little residue on your hands when fully mixed.

Snowflake Window Clings

Maybe you already have holiday decorations up around the house, but don’t forget the windows! These window clings are easy to make, and the kids can look at the glittering snowflakes on their windows and know it’s time for the holidays.

SUPPLIES:

  • Glue (or puffy paint)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Snowflake template (can be printed)
  • A large freezer bag

STEPS:

  1. Cut off the zipper part of the freezer bag – it will just get in the way. Slide your template into the freezer bag.
  2. Add a piece of tape to both the front and back to keep[ it from slipping and sliding around the freezer bag.
  3. Use the glue to trace over the snowflake shape on the template. Don’t be stingy! You need enough to peel it off.
  4. Now glitter!
  5. It might suck, but wait 24-48 hours for the glue to dry. Gently shake off excess glitter.
  6. Peel off! If you’re having trouble, try taking them outside into the cold weather or put them in the fridge for a few minutes.
  7. Now stick them on your window and enjoy the view.
