Services that deliver meals and produce to our homes are widely popular now for several reasons. They make it possible to cut back on trips to the grocery store, get touch-free delivery, reduce food waste, and save time and energy, all while still feeding our families healthy, delicious meals. We checked out a variety of Colorado subscription services that free up our time by doing all of the planning, shopping, preparation, and, sometimes, even the cooking for us. Delivery areas vary, as do ordering and delivery schedules.
Ready to Heat and Eat
Jays2go
Jay Solomon, the owner of Jays2Go, worked in the restaurant business for 25 years and it shows in the flavors and presentation of the meals. Each entree and side dish is packaged together for a complete meal that’s ready to heat. Portions are generous and meals are available to order for individuals, for a pair, or for feeding multiple people.
The Spicy Radish
The Spicy Radish menu includes items that are kid-friendly like Crispy Parmesan Chicken to more complex like Greek Stuffed Peppers. Entrees, sides, and sauces are packaged separately, and labeled for easy last-minute assembly. Oven-heating is recommended. Portions are plentiful, especially salads.
SupperBell
This dinner-to-your-door company’s culinary director is Frank Bonanno, the Colorado restaurateur behind 10 popular local restaurants, including Mizuna, Osteria Marco, and Denver Milk Market. Some meals are more elegant for adults, some are geared strictly for kids, and some are family-pleasing meals with an entree and multiple sides. Meals can be heated in the microwave or oven.
Meals Requiring Prep
Prefare Gourmet Meal Kits
Everything you need for a meal is portioned out and provided in these kits, including spices. Meals can be cooked in 15 minutes or less with options that include meat, seafood, and vegetarian. They also have fundraising opportunities.
Green Chef
This Boulder-based, meal-kit delivery is USDA-certified organic. Start by choosing the type of meal plan you want (plans include keto + paleo, balanced living with meat and veggie options, and plant-powered), then select the number of people you need to feed (two to six) and the quantity of meals to receive for the week (three or four). Ingredients and recipes are provided, but do require minimal prep, and cook time is typically around 30 minutes. HelloFresh, Green Chef’s parent company, offers a similar service with even more menu options, including kid-tested recipes.
Produce & Provisions
The Growhaus
Choose the Growhaus all-produce box ($20) to have fruits and vegetables—with the option of eggs and bread—delivered to your home. Additional amounts of each can be added. Whenever possible, items are sourced locally and are organically grown. To help support Growhaus’ mission of reducing food insecurity, you can purchase an additional box for residents in need in the 80216 zip code.
Pasture Provisions
Make room in your freezer for 100 percent Colorado-raised grass-fed beef, lamb, free-range chicken and eggs, and heritage breed pork, and in your fridge for a bounty of organically grown vegetables. Order meat-only baskets or ones with a mixture of meat, eggs, and vegetables.
Locavore Delivery
Close relationships created with family-owned Colorado ranches help ensure high-quality, ethically-raised meat, pork, and poultry in this delivery service. Choose from monthly boxes of curated products that can be customized and are geared toward the number of people in a family. Add on specialty meats, spices, and honey.
