Let’s face it, if we want the Mother’s Day of our dreams, that usually means dropping major hints or planning it ourselves. Here are six ways we’d love to spend Mother’s Day this year:

1. Cooking Class Without the Dishes

If the kitchen is your haven, Uncorked Kitchen in Centennial is hosting a Mother’s Day Lunch cooking class, complete with a prosecco toast. May 12, 2 to 5 p.m. $89.

2. Slowed Down Hike

The relaxing practice of forest bathing involves a slow meander through a forest or natural setting, engaging the senses, and deep breathing. Denver Botanic Gardens offers a guided forest bathing walk on May 12 for $30, or grab a friend, find your own natural space to explore, and clear out the mental clutter.

3. Exercising that Creative Side

Enough crayons and glitter! The Craftsman and Apprentice in City Park West holds classes to teach grown-up craft skills. Kick off Mother’s Day weekend at the Friday Night Craft Social to learn the art of carving and block printing. May 10, 6:30 p.m. $36.

4. A Musical in a Real Theater

Call in your mom squad and hit a performance of the smash Broadway musical Wicked at Buell Theatre over Mother’s Day weekend. Two performances on both Saturday and Sunday, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

5. Testing our Strength

Learn the basics of rock climbing from professional instructors during Women’s Wilderness Mother’s Day rock climbing course. For girls ages eight to 15 and their mom, guardian, or grandma. May 12, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. $120 for two people.

6. Reading Quietly

Pick up the book you’ve been trying to finish for weeks and attend Silent Book Club at BookBar on Tennyson Street. From 6 to 7 p.m. read silently in the cozy back room with a half-price coffee or bar drink at your side.
