Would you like to learn fun, easy songs and rhymes that will help your child gain important pre-reading skills? Are you looking for new ideas for educational activities to do with your little one? Check out StoryBlocks (www.storyblocks.org) created by the Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy (CLEL) – a group of librarians working to strengthen children’s literacy through library services and community advocacy – and Rocky Mountain PBS.
Storyblocks, which is funded by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, features short videos of people singing, rhyming, and being silly for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Seven of the videos are even in Spanish. Each video comes with an early literacy tip to explain how to help prepare a child to read using simple, every day activities. All the songs and rhymes are fun activities that make learning enjoyable for both parent and child.
If you’ve visited Storyblocks in the past, it’s time to make a return visit. Eight new videos have just been added, including songs and rhymes for drive time, storytime, dinnertime, and all of the times that you spend with your child.
